Neighborhood Spotlight | Country Club
One of Denver’s most revered neighborhoods is historic Country Club. This area is bordered by University Blvd. on its east side, 8th Avenue to the north and Downing Street to the West.
Historic Neighborhood’s Roots
Country Club was built in conjunction with the Denver Country Club and encompasses the residential area known as Country Club Place. The residential area began in 1909 and was designed by William and Arthur Fisher. The result was only 380 homes, making it the smallest area in Denver with its own neighborhood name. The Denver Country Club neighborhood was deemed an Historic Landmark District in 1990 because of its architectural and geographical significance.
The Country Club Neighborhood Features a Variety of Styles
Here in Country Club, you will find the best examples of Denver Squares, Gothic, Mediterranean and sweeping Southern Colonials. The Mediterranean Gateways along 4th Avenue greet you as you enter an area that is adorned with wide landscaped parkways, 100-year-old trees and some of the most stunning homes in Denver.
Country Club is exclusive, iconic and a prime example of luxury living in Denver. Deep rooted in old money, this neighborhood is the perfect place if you are looking for old-world architecture in a mansion.
Denver’s Elite Rush to Country Club
Denver’s social, political and economic elite came here when it was developed to support the opulent lifestyle that early 20th century Denver offered. The wealthiest in the area, including founders of the major banks, oil company owners, sugar farmers, mining executives, heads of major corporations, and even the Denver Mayor, Robert Speer, all wanted to be apart of this historic expansion.
The jewel of this area is the majestic and visually stunning, Denver Country Club. This exclusive country club was founded in 1887 and is the oldest private country club West of the Mississippi and one of the oldest in the entire country. The Club originated as a place for the members to partake in horse racing and has evolved into a full-fledged club that has an 18-hole golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, an Olympic sized pool, and even an ice-skating rink. The outdoor ice-skating rink is one of only a handful in Colorado and has been a favorite of members since 1916. The club features a beautiful New England Style exterior and affords members fine dining and a whole host of activities.
Current Market Value for Country Club Homes
As of this writing, the lowest priced home for sale in the Country Club neighborhood is $3,200,000 and the highest is $4,250,000. The most expensive sale in the last year was $6.800,000. So, if you are looking for location, luxury, and a unique variety of architectural styled mansions in a superb Denver location, historic Country Club should be on the top of your list!
